Seremban is a city located in the Seremban District and serves as the capital of the state of Negeri Sembilan in Peninsular Malaysia. The city is governed by the Seremban City Council. Seremban was granted city status on 20 January 2020. Originally founded as Sungei Ujong, named after a nearby river, the town later adopted the name Seremban. However, the name Sungai Ujong still remains prominent as a street name for a road located on the southern side of the city (Sungai Ujong Road, or Jalan Sungai Ujong). Sungai Ujong also refers to a luak (chiefdom) that played a significant role in the formation of Negeri Sembilan, encompassing the district of Seremban and the neighboring Port Dickson District.
